Artyli Gallery is excited to announce the creative unfolding of ‘Southern Soul’, a new exhibition opening that will take place on Saturday, the 7th of October from 14:00 till 18:00, at Artyli Gallery located in Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton!
The mission of the ‘Southern Soul’ exhibition is twofold - to first grant space to engage with the artistic process, both intuitive and intentional, and the second to reveal the power that artistic dialogue wields to facilitate the wider public to confront various social ills in a manner that is dually informative and creative, for art is a universal language that resonates with those who are artistic and with those who are not necessarily artistically inclined.
The ‘Southern Soul’ exhibition will be a mesh of art movements, and will feature diverse and complex thematic concerns ranging from the politics of ideology and identity, the dynamics of power and protest, the navigation of mind and bodily matters, and reflections of life in urban and rural localities. ‘Southern Soul’ will document the shifts in struggle in Africa; while capturing the essence of hope and liberation of Africans. This is our story. Our social issues in the Global South, brought forward and guided by poignant visual narratives.
The exhibition will feature exceptionally talented artists such as Bambo Sibiya, Asanda Kupa, Khaya Sineyele, Dion Cupido, Restone Maambo, Dario Manjate, Treasure Mlima, Andrew Ntshabele, Frans Thoka, Ludumo Maqabuka, Patrick Seruwu and John Nkosi. These are artists, amongst others, who have utilised artistic activism to create topical works of art tethered to our homeland, to our beloved African continent.
To create is to be vulnerable, to accept that your consciousness will be laid bare for the public. ‘Southern Soul’ will foreground the vulnerability of the creative endeavour and the duty of the artist called to cultivate social awareness. This exhibition is about the art of the South, from the soul, for the soul.
