Curatorial reading
The title invokes the chrysalis as a liminal structure: a protected but unstable space in which one identity is dissolved before another can emerge. The sitter appears against a fragmented, partially unresolved field, suggesting a self still being formed. Rather than presenting transformation as a clean arrival, the painting holds the figure between concealment and revelation, vulnerability and becoming.
Relationship to The Spaces Between
The work speaks directly to the exhibition's interest in thresholds. It locates identity not as fixed, but as something continually made and remade between an earlier self and an unknown future.
