This intricate linocut presents the Damara dik-dik as a symbolic stand-in for the “Lambof God,” poised serenely upon a sacred book marked with seven seals. Behind the smallantelope radiates a circular field of sacred geometry, framed within an illuminatedmanuscript–like design that evokes medieval devotional imagery. At each of the four corners, insects act as spiritual emblems: the scarab symbolizes theeternal cycle of life and rebirth; the death’s-head hawk moth signifies death andtransformation; the cicada echoes the rhythmic pulse of life itself; and the fireflyrepresents illumination—the courage to shine one’s inner light. Together these elementsweave natural history with sacred symbolism, suggesting a quiet reverence for thedivine presence embedded within the living world.
