The Emperor depicts a colossal reclining figure seated upon a throne formed from a dense miniature cityscape. Emerging from plastiglomerate rock, the throne is constructed from clustered architectural forms linked together through circuitry-like patterns, merging the visual language of the urban and the technological. The work echoes earlier pieces in which motherboard structures resembled cities, here expanded into an entire environment over which the figure presides.

The Emperor looms above this landscape in a state of quiet vigilance. Though monumental, his presence is not overtly aggressive; instead, the work explores a sense of restrained, almost ceremonial power. He appears less like a ruler in action than a permanent fixture within the world itself, ancient, immovable, and slowly being reabsorbed into the material around him.

This gradual dissolution is reflected throughout the sculpture. The drapery of his gown transitions from naturalistic folds into increasingly abstract forms as it rises across the body, while the figure’s face partially disappears beneath encroaching rock. The city itself begins to climb upward into him, blurring distinctions between architecture, geology, and flesh. It becomes unclear whether he governs the landscape or has become another part of it.

Like many works within this broader speculative world, The Emperor imagines a future in which technological systems persist beyond comprehension, merging with the environment and taking on mythological presence. The figure remains suspended between monument and ruin, a solitary presence enduring within the slow collapse of time
