In this linocut a winged zebra—an African Pegasus—bursts through the circularboundary of the image, distorting the surrounding landscape as it moves betweenworlds. The mythical creature appears suspended in motion, its wings extended as iflifting it beyond the limits of the picture plane. An optical illusion unfolds within thescene: a cloud drifts across the space in front of the zebra’s leg, subtly challenging theviewer’s perception and raising the playful question of what appears large or small, nearor distant. The African Pegasus is imagined here as a creature of fortune and blessing. Like itslegendary counterpart, it symbolizes luck and good fortune, but also guidance, protection, freedom, and the crossing of unseen thresholds. In this vision it becomes amessenger between the earthly and the mythical—an embodiment of possibility, movement, and the quiet magic hidden within the natural world.
