South African artist, Andrew Ntshabele, has become well known for works that typically are created from mixed media images over various collage substrates. His work thematically explores themes of time, memory, and emotion.
This large-scale work has been painted in softer tones. We are intrigued by the young girl, who has her back to us and appears to be preoccupied with her own thoughts. The young girl represents current and future generations, while the vintage maps of Europe represent a bygone era in world history. Ntshabele cleverly creates a contemplative space by producing an encounter between two eras, with a child representing hope for a future, and the substrate representing the past.
As Andrew Ntshabele becomes a sought-after artist on the international art scene his works will become more valuable in our local art scene. Purchase online or visit the gallery at Nelson Mandela Square Mall in Sandton, Johannesburg. We are open between 9 am and 6 pm daily.
