Artyli Gallery is proud to announce Tsalwa: The Materiality of Stories, a new solo exhibition by Fumani Maluleke, presented in collaboration with the UNISA Art Gallery. The exhibition will officially open on 26 April at 12h00 at the UNISA Art Gallery.
In Tsalwa: The Materiality of Stories, Maluleke employs the handcrafted straw mat—traditionally used in many African homes—as both a physical and metaphorical canvas to depict narratives of land, home, and communal life. The term Tsalwa reflects Maluleke’s engagement with the straw mat as a metaphorical scroll, transforming a utilitarian object into a vessel for cultural preservation and artistic expression.
In anticipation of the opening, Artyli Gallery is delighted to offer an exclusive online showcase of the exhibition.
