...Abstraction has facilitated an alternative - a more covert reflection on the human condition and experience, particularly through patterns and symbols that speak on existential thematic concerns found in philosophy, politics and psychology. Abstraction can be said to be the consciousness of the artist made manifest.
This exciting group show brings together a select group of artists who have been pushing the boundaries of abstraction in their practice over the past few years. Abstraction, which first emerged in the late 19th century alongside the discovery of the atom and the invention of the camera, revolutionized art by shifting focus from the tangible to the energetic and unseen. As the understanding of atomic energy challenged perceptions of physical reality and the camera took on the role of documentation, artists were freed to explore their inner worlds and express broader, non-narrative visions. Abstract art has begun to increasingly re-emerge in the contemporary art world, as it is said that the world tends to turn to abstraction during times of uncertainty and humanity has long since fallen from the precipice of impending uncertainty.
