Maqabuka’s art is a celebration and expression of culture and subcultures simultaneously

Born in Umtata in the Eastern Cape, Maqabuka now resides in Johannesburg. He obtained a National Diploma in Fine Art at Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, in 2007 and in 2009 exhibited as a solo artist with his collection, +27, at Design Cafe in Pretoria. He works as a full-time professional artist and has since taken part in many group exhibitions.

Ludumo Maqabuka is a contemporary urban artist whose work is at the juncture of where contemporary street art meets daily life in urban Africa. His work is highly relevant and interprets South African society with all its complex dynamics, within a framework of popular culture. Maqabuka` s artworks invite you to explore relevant themes, through a liberated visual language, expressed in the detail and boldness of Pop style images juxtaposed against surfaces of inscribed mark making - a flamboyant freedom of spontaneous process orientated surfaces creating a graffiti type of abstract expressionism.

Ludumo intends for his art to conscientizing his audience, while celebrating South African heritage.
