This work is part of a lifelong exploration of sand cast ceramics, the use of liquid clay in casting grotesque forms using a sand mold. Two distinct clay bodies are activated, a white stoneware and a charcoal clay body that turns completely black under extreme temperatures. Sand is not a material too far away from human expression, to feel it in the palm, the toes of even the teeth, you cover your foot in it at the beach and pull it out carefully because you want to trust that it can hold that space for you, so that you are made in its image, even for a few hours.
For the work showcased here on Rewilding, Clay is flexible, patient and incredibly resistant to water, air, heat and even time itself, for example, as of February 2026, the oldest ceramic figurine in the world is estimated to have been made a little over 30 000 years ago, fast forward to the present, the furthest satellite from our planet, Voyager 1 is estimated to be around 25.7 billion kilometers away from Earth.
Deploying a fabrication technique that is unconventional, has the advantage of presenting surprises constantly, using found objects, and a material that is 100% recyclable, In this exhibition, Ignis Stellae, Nummo Winter and Yelema Ingots, are artworks shaped and named to revise our gaze at the stars still radically attuned to the notion of the ‘’Natural”, in Rewilding is clay is used as recording device for objects that travel beyond the spans of human life.
