The artworks of Robert Slingsby are reminiscent of the movements of Modern Art, Cubism and Surrealism - as he merges the distinct geometrics of Joan Miró, the subtle element of abstraction of Pablo Picasso, and the colourful playfulness of Salvador Dali. Slingsby’s practice is not only influenced by countercultural ideas and revolutionary politics, but his visual process is ethnographic in nature - encompassing critical research and immersive fieldwork. Slingsby begins with interaction that facilitates a visual documentation of African cultures, both ancient and contemporary.
