In “The Tides Will Change For The Better 2" by Andrew Ntshabele we are drawn into the beautiful pastels of the vintage maps and interesting texts about early Johannesburg.
This work reflects Andrew’s known style of assembling images from historical documents and artefacts collaged into the background for his figurative paintings. This multifaceted artwork documents the past and references the present through the combination of two young girls holding each other’s hands over colourful maps of Rhodesia – now known as Zimbabwe. The beautifully executed young girls stand together evoking a sense of joy and strength, an aura of new certainty for a new Africa. The girls standing together reflects a confident sense of belonging.
