This work is based on a character portrayed by a musician and performer from the band The Brother Moves On, who interrogates roles of gender, race, and power in South Africa. His embellished portrayals of different typecast characters each represent, in part, the diverse range of individuals making up the different facets of South African culture and identity. The Black Diamond Butterfly, depicted here in a fighting pose, represents a very wealthy, outspoken political figure.
