Daniel ‘Stompie’ Selibe produces abstract works characterised by rhythmic outbursts of colour onto the canvas, wood, and other substrates. Selibe’s abstractions are symbolic forms of spirituality and a vulnerable engagement with the inner worlds of the self, through art. Selibe incorporates combinations of collage, abstract mark-making, and detailed texture to essentially craft culture from culture. Selibe’s artistic practice is a process of intentional deconstruction and reconstruction as he uses existing cultural materials to formulate new meanings.
