Sue Martin is an abstract painter of landscapes -  both outer external in the natural world and inner internal, as a metaphor for the mind and the human connection to land. Veering toward very subtle Expressionism, Sue Martin sometimes creates works that depict figures of light and luminosity, conveying the more spiritual  notion of an energy body that surrounds all living things. Martin’s earlier work conveyed the glimmers of ambition through migrant workers moving from rural outskirts to urban cities, carrying hopeful dreams of brighter futures. As Martin has evolved as an artist, so too has her colour palette - shifting from earthy browns,  moody blues and greys,  to dramatic crimsons and blood oranges.  There is a layering and a sense of mapping to the work of Sue Martin - of colour, texture and symbolism to capture the narrative she conveys through each body of work.
