A Zulu heritage, upbringing and sensibility influences the painting technique of Sibusiso Ngwazi, who captures communal trance states, rhythmic movement and  moments of meditation. Ngwazi’s thematic concern is grounded in celebration, song, dance and ancestral collaboration to create a rich narrative. Sticks and his hands are directly used in the creation of his works, and this direct bodily and energetic engagement makes Ngwazi’s artistic process characteristically improvised and intuitive, to a large extent led by his subconscious. Ngwazi makes use of very subtle and veiled forms of repetitive, yet highly refined mark-making that are an abstract representation of his worldview in the form of deeply concealed  landscapes, waterscapes, shapes and symbols.
